New Motel Development, 15 Joy Street Oamaru

New Motel Development, 15 Joy Street Oamaru

As part of a large-scale subdivision and residential development in Oamaru, the proposal is to build a brand new motel on-site. There was an old historic hospital built in the 50s that was recently demolished to make way for this motel development to accommodate increasing numbers of visitors to the region. The hospital foundations remain, with a two-level motel proposed comprising of 40 units that have double bed rooms with amenities.

Oamaru is the largest town in North Otago on the South Island of New Zealand and is the main town in the Waitaki District.

Oamaru is famous for its limestone known as ‘Oamaru stone’, which had been extensively used in the building of Southland’s prime historic buildings.

The proposed motel design is to be a modern addition to the region, yet still reflect the city’s historic architecture with its finishes and materials.
